Two sentences passed against Ali Shaahil of Finifenmaage, F. Nilandhoo, the main suspect in the violent killing of Shiaau Mohamed Saeed, have been appealed once more at the High Court.
Shaahil, implicated in Shiaau’s murder, had previously been found guilty on two charges and received a three-year prison sentence. As per the registry of the High Court, he submitted appeals for both matters last week. The court has not yet determined if the appeals will advance.
On August 6, 2022, Shiaau was discovered decapitated and brutally disfigured within an apartment on the ninth floor of H. Sheereen Villa in Male' City, marking one of the most horrific crimes ever documented in the Maldives.
The specifics of the various allegations against Shaahil have been kept private, and numerous charges are still awaiting resolution at the Criminal Court.
On August 7, 2022, the day following the murder, the Criminal Court mandated that Shaahil stay in custody.
Authorities had indicated earlier that the autopsy results revealed Shiaau sustained serious injuries post-mortem, and that the evidence suggested she succumbed to injuries caused by Shaahil.
