Saahil Ali's three-year prison sentence from the Criminal Court, stemming from the brutal murder of a young woman in a Male' residence, has been appealed after he was convicted of two out of five charges.

Shiau Mohamed Saeed from Fuvahmulah City died in a Male' home in August 2022. Investigators subsequently found that her body had been disfigured post-mortem. The State filed five distinct charges against Saahil, of Finifenmaage, F. Nilandhoo.

The hearings for the case are taking place in private. At the request of the State, both the trial and the allegations have remained private.

The Criminal Court confirmed that Saahil was found guilty of two out of five charges, resulting in a prison sentence of 3 years, 1 month, and 6 days. Despite Saahil's earlier appeal of the case, it was not accepted then because of a documentation problem.

Saahil submitted an appeal concerning his three-year prison sentence last week, and a decision has yet to be reached.

Verdicts for the outstanding charges have not been issued yet, as a hearing for the delivery of summary statements is still pending. Nevertheless, last week's hearing was canceled because of technical issues.

The Criminal Court previously indicated that the Attorney General's Office chose not to offer additional legal representation at State expense to Saahil because he declined to work with lawyers appointed by the State.
