EyeCare Hospital Welcomes Maldives' First Glaucoma Subspecialist, Dr Almas

Dr Almas Adnan Ismail, the Maldives' first glaucoma subspecialist, has joined EyeCare Hospital as a Consultant Ophthalmologist, marking a significant milestone in the country's specialist eye care services.


Dr Almas completed a Glaucoma Fellowship at Vision Eye Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where she received advanced training in Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) and phacoemulsification. She has also passed Parts A and B of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) examinations and remains actively engaged in international ophthalmology conferences.


She will provide specialist consultations at EyeCare Hospital's Hulhumalé Annex, expanding access to advanced glaucoma diagnosis and treatment in the Maldives.


Glaucoma, often referred to as the "silent thief of sight," is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide. As the disease can progress without noticeable symptoms, early detection and timely treatment are essential to preserving vision.
