A new digital skills centre designed to enhance practical abilities among children with autism has been inaugurated at the Maldives Autism Association (MAA) in Hulhumale’, with support from the Government of Pakistan. The facility, named the Jinnah Digital Skill Centre (JDSC), was launched in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Pakistan’s founding father, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who is revered in Pakistan as Quaid-e-Azam (Great Leader) and Baba-e-Qaum (Father of the Nation).

The inauguration was carried out by Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the Maldives, Vice Admiral (Retd) Faisal Rasul Lodhi, along with his wife, Begum Humera Lodhi. The initiative was established with assistance from the Pakistani government.

The Pakistani delegation was welcomed by former First Lady Ilham Hussain, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, CEO of MAA, along with the association’s staff, teachers, and children. During the ceremony, Ilham Hussain expressed sincere gratitude to the Government of Pakistan for its generous support. She emphasized that the new digital skills centre represents a significant step in providing vocational training and practical skill development opportunities for children with autism. She also underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to support individuals with special needs within Maldivian society.

High Commissioner Faisal Rasul Lodhi praised MAA for its commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment for children with autism. He stated that the Jinnah Digital Skill Centre symbolizes the strong brotherly ties between Maldives and Pakistan, and noted that naming the centre after Muhammad Ali Jinnah reflects his focus on people-centered service and leadership.

He further emphasized that it is a shared responsibility to ensure children receive the care and support necessary for them to grow into responsible members of society.

After the ceremony, the High Commissioner and his delegation toured the new facility and participated in an interactive session with the staff and students at the Autism Centre.
