Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman has given 10 saplings to the Maldives and committed to donating 20,000 more trees for the Five Million Tree Programme.

A ceremony for planting trees took place at Lonuziyaaraiy Park in Henveiru, Male’ City, on Sunday morning, as part of the celebrations for the 61st anniversary of Maldives’ independence. The ceremony was part of Dr. Rahman's formal visit to participate in the Independence Day festivities.

Dr. Rahman gifted 10 saplings to the Government of Maldives, representing the enduring friendship between the nations. He declared that Bangladesh would add another 20,000 trees to aid the Five Million Tree Initiative.

The Foreign Ministry stated that the contribution signifies the enhancement of Maldives–Bangladesh collaboration in environmental conservation and climate resilience.

During the ceremony, Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam and Environment Minister Ali Shareef emphasized the significance of the Five Million Tree Programme, initiated by the government on 5 June 2024, in promoting biodiversity and ensuring long-term environmental sustainability.
