On Sunday evening, the 61st independence anniversary of the Maldives was observed with an official event, parade, and cultural displays at Republic Square, Male' City.

This year's festivities were honored by His Royal Highness Prince Dr Mansour bin Mutaib bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Minister of State, and Cabinet Member of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He represented His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed attended the ceremony.

The occasion started with a 21-gun salute from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) to the President, accompanied by a military exhibition and a formal parade.

The event included a Parade of Honour with MNDF vehicles and a National Cadet Corps (MNCC) Parade of Honour showcasing contingents from 15 schools.

A total of 348 students from Shaheed Ali School, Rehendhi School, and Iskandhar School presented a performance highlighting national unity and spirit. The Heyvalla Cultural Troupe showcased a boduberu display.

MNDF also presented a musical performance named “Minivankan”, illustrating the historical conflicts waged by Maldivian warriors. The task was executed by freshly enlisted soldiers who finished the national service program and the 72nd Basic Military Training.

The night ended with a fireworks show at the designated jetty location.
