MACL inaugurates a new passenger lounge and service zone at Terminal 1, VIA

A new area for travelers to relax and access services has been launched at the new terminal of Velana International Airport (VIA).


Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) stated that the advancement is a crucial move towards enhancing the service quality offered to passengers and fostering a more enjoyable and comfortable atmosphere within the terminal.


The new section has introduced approximately 750 square metres of extra waiting area for passengers on the first floor of Terminal One. The area offers different seating choices set up to provide travelers a more comfortable atmosphere prior to departure.


Furthermore, MACL has created a 136-square-metre playground for children. The area features multi-tiered play structures, mesh tunnels, climbing elements with ropes and rings, as well as a ball pit. The organization stated that the venue aims to offer a more secure and pleasant experience for families and children passing through Terminal One.


A specific Bank of Maldives (BML) counter has been set up in the region. The company stated that the counter will offer foreign currency exchange services and USD issuance services for citizens of the Maldives.


MACL announced that the launch of the new area represents an important advancement in its initiative to improve services at Terminal One. The firm stated that the progress demonstrates its dedication to creating VIA modern, inclusive, and centered on passenger needs.



The new terminal was inaugurated on last year's Independence Day. It was created to manage 7.5 million travelers each year.
