The Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) initiated submissions for the inaugural “MIB Guesthouse Awards 2026” on Tuesday.

As per MIB, guesthouses are eligible to apply in eight primary categories.

The eight classifications are:

- Exceptional Service and Hospitality – For guesthouses that deliver the utmost quality of service and hospitality.

- Genuine Maldivian Experience – For guesthouses that highlight Maldivian traditions, cuisine, and practices.

- Island Adventures and Activities – For lodgings providing secure and extensive coastal experiences and tour options.

- Gastronomic Journey – For inns offering outstanding dining options and regional tastes.

- Green Award – For inns focusing on environmental conservation, minimizing waste, and enhancing energy efficiency.

- Community Impact Award – For guesthouses that enhance social and economic growth while generating job opportunities within their island communities.

- Digital Presence Award – For lodging establishments that excel in marketing their services via social media and digital platforms.

- Prestigious Marine and Dive Experience Award – For lodgings providing safe and eco-friendly underwater and diving activities.

MIB indicates that the awards will be evaluated from both perspectives, relying on the evidence and documentation provided. To promote equitable competition, the bank has categorized guesthouses into two levels according to the number of rooms.

Tier One consists of small inns featuring three to ten rooms.

Tier Two comprises guesthouses that have eleven or more rooms.
