The Ministry of Health, Family, and Welfare has begun accepting applications for the Riveli Awards 2026, a nationwide program designed to honor the accomplishments of individuals with disabilities and the efforts of people and organizations advancing their well-being.

The awards aim to honor the achievements of individuals with disabilities while recognizing the contributions of those committed to promoting their inclusion and empowerment.

The Riveli Awards are included in the government's "Caring Society" initiative, aimed at protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities, offering financial support, and generating socio-economic opportunities in line with national laws.

The Ministry stated that the awards aim to enhance public understanding of the rights of individuals with disabilities, fostering increased independence and societal inclusion.

The Riveli Awards will be given in six different categories:

Individuals with disabilities.

Individuals with disabilities who have contributed to the pride and reputation of the Maldives.

Educational services (public and private organizations).

Non-profit organizations (NPOs) offering specialized services.

Support services for technical and personal needs.

Businesses aiding in the economic empowerment of individuals with disabilities.

Application forms and guidelines can be found at the Ministry of Health, Family, and Welfare, along with Family and Children Service Centres (FCSCs) throughout the atolls. Forms are also available for download on the official website of the Ministry. Finished applications can be turned in directly at the Ministry's desk or sent through email to disability@health.gov.mv.

The applications must be submitted by 13:00 on Sunday, August 30.

The government anticipates that the awards will showcase the skills and accomplishments of individuals with disabilities and aid in initiatives aimed at decreasing social discrimination.

Initiated in 2012, the Riveli Awards are awarded in partnership between the President's Office and the associated ministry to promote and honor individuals with disabilities. The ceremonies took place in 2019 and 2021.
