An incident reported by a Spanish media outlet has revealed that a Maldivian pilot student in the final stages of his pilot training, has suffered a series of injuries during a plane crash, whilst conducting a ‘touch-and-go’ training exercise at Agoncillo Airport.
The 27-year old Maldivian sustained head injuries, alongside fractures to his ankle and leg. Furthermore, it has been stated a 26-year old flight instructor, noted to have exceeded over 700 hours in flying experience was aboard during the incident, and has reported to have suffered alongside the Maldivian pilot student, having injuries to his head, in addition to injuries to his cervical vertebrae.
The aircraft, stated to be a twin-engine Tecnam P2006T operated by the ‘FlyBy’ flight school, crashed from an altitude of approximately 300 feet in the air, into an agricultural area, known as ‘Ulagosa’ in Viana.
Although ‘La Rioja’ the Spanish newspaper, has identified the student as Maldivian, two other news outlets have reported the individual to be of Pakistani national. Further details regarding the student’s identity have yet to be confirmed, and any attempts to obtain an official comment from the Maldivian Foreign Ministry in regards to the incident have been unsuccessful as of now.
According to reports the Spanish Civil Aviation Accident and Incident Investigation Commission (CIAIAC) has launched an investigation regarding the incident in order to determine an exact cause of the crash.
