The Maldives Premiere Bank was officially launched

The Maldives Premiere Bank was officially launched on 17th August 2026, being the ninth licensed bank to commence operations in the Maldives.


 


The ceremony where President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu launched the official opening of the bank at Barcelo Nasandhura, in addition to formally launching the bank’s mobile application, 'MPB plus' and internet banking services.


 


MPB’s chairperson, Ayesha Nurain Janah described the establishment of the bank to be the result of hard work, determination, extensive effort and dedication during the ceremony, in which commemorative plaques were presented to the bank’s technical partners.


 


Furthermore, she has described the launch as the beginning of a new chapter and spoke on prioritizing the bank’s ambition in order to facilitate continued progress in the coming years.


 


It has been reported that The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) initially granted conditional approval of a ‘Tier 1’ 100 percent owned Maldivian owned bank, where they aim to strenghthen international partnerships and contribute to the economic growth of the Maldives, in conjunction to empowering individuals of any size, from small enterprizes (SMEs) to large corporations.


 


They do so by providing modern and reliable financial services tailored specifically for the Maldivian financial landscape, whilst simulatanously creating opportunities both locally and internationally.


 


The digital services provided by MPB are designed to meet customer needs, as well as function within a well established governance structure.


 


Following the fulfillment of the requirements set by MMA, and completing the following changes to the name of the bank, as well as the ownership structure, MPB was subsequently granted a permanent commercial banking license, alongside an operational permit as of 19th May 2026.
