Attempted security breach at VIA: Indian detained for utilizing someone else's access card

A man was apprehended for trying to access Velana International Airport with a security badge belonging to someone else.


Authorities recognized the suspect as 45-year-old Indian citizen Sanjeeva Reddy Yelma.


He was detained on trespassing charges after trying to gain unauthorized entry to the airport via Gate 51 on the east side of Velana International Airport, utilizing an access control pass given to someone else by the Aviation and Port Security Command.


The Criminal Court placed him in custody for a duration of 15 days. As per the court directive, he was detained following the presentation of evidence against him.


The evidence consists of a police report submitted by the Aviation and Port Security Command, an incident report, and testimonies from the aviation security officer who provided evidence during the investigation. It also contains a picture of the pass reportedly utilized by the defendant, a copy of the passport holder, and a document indicating that the holder’s work visa has been revoked.


A copy of the accused’s passport and work authorization document was also provided.



The court order states that the accused informed the court his employer had provided him with the pass. The court affirmed that the arrest was conducted following the proper procedure.
