Two men, identified as Ahmed Rishmah, GA. Dhaandhoo, alongside Ahmed Raiman Naeem, M. Chorus, Male’ have been arrested and sentenced to approximately two and a half months in jail, on account of their confession to the oil attack on activist Mariyam ‘Mandhy’ Zubair, from the main opposition, Maldives Democratic Party (MDP).

The incident occurred near Woodberry Restaurant in Male’, where ‘Mandhy’ the mother of South Galolhu MP Meekail Naseem, was targeted with black oil whilst driving on a motorcycle after she has been participating in a series of MDP protests, on the night of March 17th in the year 2025,

The state charged both individuals to aiding and abetting in battery, as well as aiding and abetting in property damage, to which both men pled guilty during trial.

Rishmah had been initially sentenced to one month and six days, for the charge of aiding and abetting to property damage, however considering the amount of time he had spent in the pre-trial detention, his sentence had to be reduced to 20 days. Although, due to the addition of his charge for abetting in battery adding 18 days to his sentence, the total of his remaining term was 38 days.

Raiham, who had also pled guilty to both charges, was sentenced to 27 days for the damage of property, as well as 13 days for the battery charge.

Moreover, it has been reported that both individuals that were charged both had a criminal history, where Ahmed Rishmah had a previous arrest record due to a drug-related offense, whilst Ahmed Raiham had been arrested prior due to a link with a robbery case where a considerable amount of cash had been stolen at Velana International Airport.
