A traffic police officer had reportedly been on duty when a young man drove into him with his motorcycle, and then proceeded to attempt to flee the scene. 

This incident occurred in Male’ city, at around 5:34pm on the 28th of August, at the junction of Chaandhanee Magu, and Majeedhee magu.

It has been reported the police officer in question sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision, though nothing severe.

The suspect was confirmed to be Saain Abdul Gayyoom, aged 23, from GDh. Faresmaathoda, who was arrested on the 28th, was ordered to remain in custody for 15 days after he had been summoned in court for his remand hearing.

The motorcycle that hit the officer has been towed as the police investigate the incident further.
