A woman was found guilty due to the possession of counterfeit dollars, alongside attempting to sell the currency with the knowledge that it is counterfeit.

The woman was reported to be Shafra Abdulla Adam, from GDh, Gadhdhoo, who had previously been arrested in a police raid with others in 2022 due to an incident involving the trading of counterfeit dollars.

Following the arrest, Shafra pled guilty to the case brought against her and pleaded for leniency in the form of the lightest punishment for her.

She was sentenced to 3 months and 18 days in jail, though after deducting the time she had spent in police custody coming up to 43 days, the sentence was decided to be 2 months and five days.

Shafra’s history has shown she had been wanted for running away from her family before the age of 18, as well as for being wanted by the police for the assault of a child.
