A 28-year-old Maldivian man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting his three-year-old daughter and recording the alleged acts, police have confirmed.
The man was arrested under a court warrant on Friday in connection with the alleged abuse, which reportedly took place on an island within the South Central Police Division.
He was brought before the court later that day for a remand hearing and was ordered to remain in custody for 30 days, according to a police official.
Police confirmed to Sun that the suspect is the child’s father.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not disclosed further details at this time.
Cases involving child sexual abuse and neglect have emerged as a growing concern in the Maldives, with members of the public increasingly calling attention to the issue.
