Maldives National University (MNU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sri Lanka’s CINEC Campus on Monday to enhance collaboration in maritime education.

The contract was executed at a ceremony at MNU, with Vice Chancellor Dr. Aishath Shehenaz signing for the university and Dr. Sujeeva Polgampala representing CINEC Campus.

Captain Mohamed Zaid, Dean of MNU’s Faculty of Maritime Studies, informed Sun that the main goal of the agreement is to advance maritime education at both organizations.

Recognizing the continuous changes in global maritime curricula, Zaid indicated that the industry is experiencing swift modernization.

“In light of these changes, it is crucial that our (maritime) programs are revised accordingly.” "This is an area that will greatly benefit the Maldives," he explained.

He additionally clarified that the agreement will enable collaboration between the two organizations in cultivating human resources for the maritime industry and enhancing joint research projects.

He also expressed optimism that the collaboration would enhance the connection between the two institutions, mirroring the strong bilateral relationship between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
