President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has declared a donation of MVR 1 million to the Nepal Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund, to assist humanitarian aid and recovery initiatives after severe floods and landslides in Nepal.
The donation, made for the Maldivian people, will be placed into Nepal's disaster relief fund to aid ongoing initiatives addressing the extensive damage caused by the catastrophe.
The government stated that the aid demonstrates the Maldives' enduring dedication to regional unity and reciprocal assistance, especially during crises.
The floods and landslides that hit Nepal on August 26 resulted in widespread destruction and considerable fatalities.
The border region between Nepal and China was one of the areas significantly impacted, with flash floods allegedly caused by the breakdown of glaciers, ice, and sediments.
Initial official reports suggested that over 500 foreign nationals from 30+ countries were among the missing, along with many local residents.
The Maldives aims to aid humanitarian efforts, relief, and recovery actions as Nepal works to address the consequences of the disaster.
