An Indian man has been arrested after customs found what was suspected to be 400 grams of drugs hidden in the depths of his luggage on the 5th of October.

The incident occurred upon arrival to Maldives via the flight IndiGo with 80 packets of substances, 

Initially, customs X-rayed his luggage and discovered two rubber packets of substances in his bag, which warranted a bag search where they further discovered a total of 80 packets of substances.

The court order stated the substances acquired had been examined and tested positive for Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and weighed 418.99 grams. 

According to the court order, he was remanded in custody after sufficient evidence was presented against him, where the order included the Maldives Customer Service’s complaint form, with a statement from the police officer who attended the scene, as well as results of the drug test.

He has been remanded in custody for 30 days, in which the remand is to expire at the end of October.

Moreover, Customs is preparing to step up tighter border security measures, in order to prevent any form of narcotics from entering into the Maldives. 

This is in addition to authorities conducting numerous operations with the aim of curbing the ever increasing flow of narcotics into the country.
