Bank of Maldives (BML) has secured the Guinness World Records title for the most people snorkelling simultaneously at a single venue, with 314 participants joining the ocean conservation initiative at Niva Kurumba Maldives.

The record attempt brought people beneath the surface to experience the fragile beauty of the Maldives’ reefs first-hand. By making conservation a shared and memorable experience, BML sought to highlight the urgent need to protect the ocean ecosystems on which the Maldives depends and encourage individuals and communities to take an active role in that effort.

BML staff, Niva Kurumba Maldives and guests staying at the resort supported the record attempt. Following official verification, BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef and Niva Kurumba Maldives General Manager Morten Junior received the Guinness World Records certificate.

The achievement builds on BML’s environmental work through its ENV POS initiative. The bank directs a contribution from its earnings on every transaction made through a BML point-of-sale terminal towards environmental projects across the Maldives, at no additional cost to customers or merchants.

Through ENV POS, BML has partnered with Parley Maldives and the Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA) to support the recycling and export of ocean-bound plastic waste. The work helps protect the country’s islands and marine ecosystems for future generations.

BML said the achievement reflected its commitment to sustainability and community action by bringing people together around their shared responsibility to protect the environment.
