On Wednesday, the Criminal Court ordered that opposition MDP activist Mohamed Shamin be held in custody for 10 days.

Shamin was apprehended on Tuesday for allegedly obstructing law enforcement and breaching barriers set up to block the road during the MDP rally that took place on August 28.

Based on the remand order, he is to remain in custody for the protection and welfare of the community per Article 59 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Law enforcement provided a declaration from an on-site officer, images from surveillance video, and an intelligence document to the court as proof against Shamin, a taxi driver.

Shamin was arrested in late December 2024 during a taxi driver protest and was subsequently released under specific conditions.

Another activist from MDP, Ahmed Maimoon Mohamed, was arrested in relation to the protest on August 28. He was freed on Tuesday evening after finishing his initial five-day detention.
