Ghanaian citizens can now visit the Maldives without needing a visa before arriving.

In a public statement released last Tuesday, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the alteration comes after the execution of a reciprocal visa waiver agreement between the nations. Along with the Maldives, citizens of Ghana can now visit Zambia and Antigua and Barbuda without needing a visa in advance.

Ghana’s Foreign Ministry states that the visa exemption is valid for holders of ordinary, service, and diplomatic passports. According to the agreement, citizens of Ghana visiting the Maldives and Zambia can stay in those countries without a visa for a period of up to 30 days. Visitors to Antigua and Barbuda can enjoy a visa-free stay for up to 90 days. The agreements became effective after receiving approval from the Ghanaian Cabinet in April.

Although the visa waiver has been implemented, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs encouraged travelers to adhere strictly to the immigration regulations and entry criteria of the relevant countries. This entails possessing a valid passport and finishing all paperwork demanded by the appropriate authorities. The Ministry further stated that those traveling for work, study, or residency need to secure the necessary permits from the appropriate authorities prior to departing.

The Government of Ghana has cautioned its citizens to verify any modifications to health regulations or other entry prerequisites with appropriate authorities or the closest embassies prior to traveling. The Ministry stated that the agreements mainly focus on easing travel for Ghanaian citizens and enhancing international relations.

The Maldives is actively working on various projects to draw visitors from a broader spectrum of global markets. In alignment with these initiatives, Ethiopian Airlines, a key airline in Africa, is set to start direct flights to the Maldives later this year.
