Three people were injured and taken to hospital following a collision between two motorcycles on Sosun Magu in Malé City early Monday morning.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the accident was reported at approximately 1:12am. The crash involved two motorcycles and left three people injured — two men aged 21 and 22, and a 26-year-old woman.

The woman is receiving treatment at ADK Hospital, while the two men were taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment.

Police said the 21-year-old rider of one of the motorcycles did not hold a valid road vehicle driving licence.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.

Road accidents are reported frequently in Malé. Police statistics show that 2,100 accidents have been recorded in the city so far this year.
