The hearing scheduled for tomorrow in the case against former President Abdulla Yameen, related to bribery and money laundering charges linked to the R. Fuggiri leasing deal, has been called off.

The Criminal Court announced that the hearing set for tomorrow has been called off at the state's request. The court further indicated that the request was made by the state due to the illness of the prosecutors present in court.

After the state filed charges against Yameen, accusing him of accepting USD 1 million in bribes and laundering the funds linked to the Fuggiri leasing deal, the testimony phase has finished, and the case is now at the submission stage for evidence. The situation has stayed at that point for a significant amount of time.

A hearing for the Aarah case, where Yameen is also being prosecuted, is set for next week. In that situation, after he was initially sentenced to 11 years in prison by the Criminal Court, the High Court later reversed the judgment and mandated a retrial of the case.

The Supreme Court had earlier decided that the state could not present new evidence in the Aarah case. Additionally, the actions in the Criminal Court have been paused until a ruling is made on the issue in the Supreme Court.
