The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has opened applications for its 2026 Research Fund, with MVR 5 million available for research and book-writing projects covering economic and social policy issues.
The fund is offered under two categories: Independent Research Grants and Book Writing Grants. Individuals, academic institutions and think tanks are eligible to apply.
MMA said the initiative aims to support high-quality research that can contribute to evidence-based policymaking and strengthen the Maldives’ economic and financial stability.
Priority areas include economic stability, monetary policy, inflation, financial sector resilience, digitalisation, fintech, financial inclusion, tourism, Islamic finance, sustainable development, labour and education, housing, healthcare, public expenditure and social protection.
Applicants leading research teams must hold at least a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification, with MMA particularly encouraging researchers with PhDs to apply.
The Research Fund was launched in December 2024, with the first grants awarded in 2025 to six research proposals and one book-writing project.
Applications for the 2026 fund are open through MMA’s Research Fund portal until October 13.
