A 26-year-old woman who sustained critical injuries in a serious road accident on Sosun Magu last Saturday night has died while receiving treatment at ADK Hospital.

Police said the woman’s family informed authorities of her death on Friday afternoon. She was identified as Aishath Maahidha of Sh. Foakaidhoo.

Her funeral prayer is scheduled to be held after Fajr prayers on Saturday morning.

Maahidha had joined Maldives Immigration nine months ago and was serving as an Assistant Officer at the time of her death. She had previously worked at the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

In a statement mourning her death, Maldives Immigration extended condolences to Maahidha’s family, describing her as a dedicated employee who served the institution and the public during her short tenure. The agency also prayed for her soul and for strength and patience for her family.

Three people were injured in the collision, including Maahidha and two Maldivian men aged 21 and 22. The two men were treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Footage of the crash shared on social media showed Maahidha lying unresponsive at the scene with serious head injuries, while the two men were also seen with injuries.

According to police, the 21-year-old man who was riding one of the motorcycles involved in the crash did not hold a valid driving licence. Police confirmed on Wednesday night that one person had been arrested in connection with the accident, but did not disclose the individual’s identity.

Road accidents continue to be a recurring issue in the Malé area, with police statistics showing that more than 2,100 accidents have been recorded so far this year.
