The Maldivian delegation left the United Nations General Assembly hall on Thursday as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began his speech, accompanied by several other delegations that exited the chamber.

The Maldives has enforced identical measures for the third consecutive year.

This year's General Assembly is led by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, who represents the Maldivian delegation. International news organizations reported on a major walkout as Netanyahu approached the stage for his address.

Following the walkout, Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam remarked that the Maldives maintains that every country must comply with international law uniformly.

She declared that the Maldives would refrain from participating in an environment where these principles are disregarded and opposed the endorsement of actions it perceives as inconsistent with international law.

Minister Iruthisham affirmed the Maldives' support for Palestine and its position that an independent Palestinian state should be established based on the borders prior to 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Maldives also supports full UN membership for Palestine.

The Maldives has persistently emphasized the Palestinian issue at international platforms and called for responsibility regarding alleged violations of international law in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.

Israel rejects claims of perpetrating genocide and war crimes.

The government has consistently supported the advancement of Palestinian statehood and intensified international efforts on the issue.

The Maldives' approach to foreign policy includes maintaining diplomatic relations with multiple countries while notably excluding Israel, and the government has amended immigration rules to restrict entry for holders of Israeli passports.

The situation in Palestine has always been a significant subject in the Maldives’ interactions with global organizations and diplomatic occurrences, as representatives from the Maldives continue to support Palestinian rights and seek a political resolution to the conflict.
