The asphalt for the second section of the Ameenee Magu redevelopment area has now been completed.

The repair of Ameenee Magu commenced following numerous complaints from commuters about significant asphalt deterioration near the Harbour Food Court area, leading to daily disruptions.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), which is owned by the government, stated that the resurfacing efforts will enhance mobility and offer a more comfortable travel experience for the residents of Malé City.

MTCC received the Ameenee Magu renovation contract on June 15 of the previous year. Construction activities commenced in August, and the application of asphalt began on September 19. MTCC finished the paving task earlier on Monday.

The government is dissolving the Road Development Corporation (RDC) and merging it with MTCC, which was originally given the contract to repair the area's asphalt. RDC stated that construction would commence on April 11.

In early June, RDC attributed the delay to modifications requested by the Housing Ministry. A month later, the Housing Ministry transferred the task to MTCC.

The final section of Ameenee Magu was surfaced two years ago by the former government. The Planning Ministry under former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration granted RDC a contract worth MVR 84.4 million for the projects.

Since that time, the asphalt on either side of Ameenee Magu has degraded in several areas, creating risks and inconveniences for travelers. The community has expressed worries about the state of the road multiple times.
