President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim committed to providing practical assistance to Maldivian students and families residing in Malaysia during his recent visit to the Maldives.

During PSM’s Nation Chat program, President Dr. Muizzu stated that nearly 2,700 Maldivian students are enrolled in Malaysian universities, and roughly 6,000 Maldivians reside there with their families.

The President stated that Prime Minister Anwar guaranteed that administrative processes would be simplified for Maldivian students, including those intending to study in Malaysia.

The conversations also covered broadening internship prospects, especially for students in healthcare and technical disciplines.

The suggested actions aim to tackle academic and daily challenges encountered by Maldivian students and residents living in Malaysia.

The two leaders also talked about actions to expedite the execution of a USD 100 million currency-swap agreement.

They contemplated initiating discussions on a Preferential Trade Agreement, which might offer unique trade concessions between the two nations, along with examining joint investment opportunities.

President Dr. Muizzu referred to Malaysia as a significant ally for the Maldives.

He mentioned that discussions included collaboration on climate change, operational issues influencing the Maldivian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, and the creation of a joint committee to enhance bilateral relations further.

Prime Minister Anwar visited at the request of President Dr. Muizzu, engaging in talks to enhance collaboration in education, trade, investment, climate action, and connections between people.
