Maldives sees 150,764 visitors in September

Recent statistics from the Tourism Ministry indicate that over 150,000 visitors traveled to the Maldives in September.


The data indicates that 150,764 tourists visited the Maldives in September, reflecting a minor 0.2 percent decrease from the 151,114 arrivals noted in the same month the previous year. The daily average arrival rate was 5,872, with the peak number of arrivals occurring on September 26, when 6,284 visitors entered the nation.


Tourist arrivals so far this year have totaled 1,603,021, showing a 3.4 percent drop from the 1,659,031 arrivals noted in the same timeframe last year.


China continues to be the top source market for tourism in the Maldives, with 300,977 visitors arriving from there this year. Russia comes in second with 229,236 arrivals, while the United Kingdom has 119,968 visitors. Germany has seen 99,062 arrivals, whereas Italy has welcomed 98,039 tourists.
Regarding lodging, resorts continue to be the top option for travelers, welcoming 1,158,404 guests up to this point in the year. Guesthouses have hosted 345,220 visitors, whereas 36,106 tourists have chosen hotels and 29,679 have selected safari vessels.


Velana International Airport (VIA) continues to be the primary entry point for international travelers, enabling the arrival of 1,569,214 tourists up to this point in the year. Gan International Airport has logged 5,606 international tourist arrivals, while Maafaru International Airport has seen 5,032, Hanimaadhoo International Airport has reported 3,331, Maamigili Airport has welcomed 2,971, and Dhaalu Airport has attained 1,284.
