Ex-President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom asserts that the nation's past leaders and the government's legal representatives “do not have the courage” to speak on the Eagle Hills contract made for the Rasmale’ initiative.
Addressing a rally organized by the People’s National Front (PNF), Yameen harshly condemned the government’s agreement with Abu Dhabi’s Eagle Hills, claiming that the administration has failed to adequately communicate the project's advantages to the public.
Yameen characterized the deal as “bad” and a clear “offense,” arguing that the 99-year lease would result in foreigners being established in a way that jeopardizes national interests. He additionally claimed that the Attorney General’s Office lacks an adequate legal framework and mentioned that state legal representatives have “ceased communication” regarding the project.
Voicing apprehension about commercial connections with Abu Dhabi, Yameen stated it was intolerable to enhance ties with entities he claimed were associated with Israel’s activities in Palestine. He contended that designating extensive areas of land without sufficient protections endangers coastal safety and the tourism sector, and he challenged the lack of commentary from religious scholars on the matter.
Yameen stated that economic gains should arise from optimizing national resources, asserting that selling strategic assets like the international airport and primary port for profit is unacceptable.
