On Sunday, the Maldives strongly condemned the deadly attack by Yemen’s Houthis on King Khalid International Airport near the Saudi capital, Riyadh, which led to the deaths of at least 12 people.

The attack on Saturday led to the fatalities of at least four Saudi citizens and two Bangladeshis, alongside one person each from the United States, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Sudan, and Egypt.

A minimum of 309 more people sustained injuries.

On Sunday, the Foreign Ministry of Maldives issued a statement condemning the deadly assault, emphasizing the fatalities and wounds experienced by many civilians.

"The assault on civilians and vital infrastructure constitutes a major violation of international law and poses a grave threat to the safety and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the wider region," the Foreign Ministry remarked.

The Maldives conveyed heartfelt condolences to the government of Saudi Arabia and its people, along with the families of the victims, hoping for a swift healing for those injured.

“The Maldives reaffirms its full support for Saudi Arabia and endorses all measures implemented by the Kingdom to ensure its security, sovereignty, and the well-being of its citizens and residents,” the Foreign Ministry declared.

The assault marked the third assault by the Houthis on the international airport last week. Houthi attacks on King Khalid airport Thursday led to the deaths of at least three Saudi citizens, including a pilot.

The attacks take place as fighting intensifies in Yemen, with forces loyal to the internationally recognized government clashing with the Iran-backed Houthis for control of the country.

Saudi Arabia has initiated an air campaign to support the Yemeni government's ground operations and has reported multiple strikes on Houthi-held regions, including the capital, Sanaa.
