The sentencing of Mariyam Dheena, the former Head of Procurement at Fenaka Corporation, is set for Tuesday after her guilty verdict in a corruption case.

The previous Managing Director of the company, Ahmed Saeed, was sentenced to four years in prison related to the case nearly a year ago. Nonetheless, actions against Dheena were still ongoing at that time.

On Sunday, the Criminal Court ruled that Deena was guilty of abusing her official position, as accused by the state. The hearing to announce her sentencing is set for Tuesday at 10:00am.

The matter involves a 2018 contract between Fenaka Corporation and Blazon Inc., in which payments were improperly issued to the company prior to the project's completion and without confirming the advancement of the work. Inquiries also uncovered that a second contract was executed before the tasks under the first agreement were finished.

In the previous decision against Saeed, Chief Judge Adam Mohamed of the Criminal Court pointed out that corruption in state-owned companies and the misappropriation of public funds had become prevalent. The judge emphasized that light penalties for these crimes promote corruption, highlighting the necessity to enforce the highest punishments allowed by law.

Saeed was found guilty of corruption and received a four-year prison sentence from the Criminal Court in September of the previous year.
