A fragment of a jawbone was found on the shores of Th. Kandufushi, a deserted island, on Saturday.
Police report that a group of campers on the island discovered what seems to be a mandible resting on the beach.
Officials have not yet verified if the bone is from a human or an animal, although the piece initially seems to be human. Authorities stated that the issue is currently being examined.
The most recent missing-person case noted in Thaa Atoll occurred in April of last year, concerning Ali Mushfiq Mohamed, who leaped into the ocean during the fire incident on the "Holhudhoo Boat," which was transporting goods to islands in Thaa and Laamu atoll. Despite thorough searches by MNDF throughout a large section of the sea, he has not been located.
Authorities stated it is premature to ascertain if the jawbone is linked to that investigation.
