The Criminal Court has mandated that a 62-year-old Maldivian man stay in custody until his trial ends following his arrest on suspicion of smuggling 19 drug pellets hidden within his body.
The individual suspected has been recognized as Ahmed Naseer, 62, Hazaarumaage, V. Fulidhoo.
At the remand hearing, Judge Ali Nadeem ruled that Naseer would be held in detention until the legal process is finished. The court also found that his arrest was executed in line with legal procedures.
The court ruling stated that Naseer was apprehended due to suspicion of having consumed illegal drugs. A later medical examination and extraction process verified that 19 pallets thought to hold drugs were hidden within his body.
Referencing the police report, the court noted that the confiscated materials totaled 427 grams in weight. The court mandated that he remain in custody, referencing adequate evidence connecting him to the supposed crime and the possible danger his release might present to community safety.
