President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed participated in the flag-raising and guard-changing ceremony.
The event occurred this morning at the memorial location honoring the happenings of November 3.
At the Victory Day Monument, Defense Minister Hassan Rasheed welcomed the President and First Lady upon their arrival.
The ceremony was also attended by cabinet ministers and high-ranking government officials. This year’s Victory Day celebrations started earlier with a significant assembly for the Fajr prayer.
In a message conveying Victory Day wishes to the public and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), President Muizzu emphasized the bravery shown by soldiers during times when the nation’s independence faced danger. He honored their sacrifices and emphasized that the occurrences provide a crucial lesson for the country.
Reciting lines from the poem "Shaheedhuge Zikura" by celebrated poet Adam Haleem Adnan, the President wished that the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country would receive the greatest blessings in Paradise.
November 3 signifies the day the Maldives encountered one of the most perilous foreign assaults in its recent past. In the coup attempt, conducted with a Sri Lankan militant group, insurgents maintained control over the capital, Malé, for around 18 hours.
The assault included 80 individuals from the Sri Lankan militant organization "PLOTE", together with a few Maldivians.
