A new report by the Diabetes Society of the Maldives and the Ministry of Health has found that 84% of the population is overweight, and that this is leading to an increase in diabetes cases.

The report, which was based on a nationwide screening program, found that only 36% of Maldivians meet the criteria for being physically active, and that only 40% of individuals consume fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. The report's authors say that the high rates of overweight and obesity are a major public health concern, and that they are likely to lead to an increase in chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

The report recommends a number of measures to address the problem, including improving access to physical activity programs, promoting healthy eating habits, and providing better education about the risks of obesity.
