1)You help lots of Maldivian addicts how it all started ?

A) It all started when I had to come back to India. I had few Maldivian friends who knew the service I was doing in 2012 I have always had a passion to help the Maldivians. We started off with a awareness programme and many families approached me seeking help.

2)What drew you to focusing on addiction counselling?

A)I was attracted towards addiction counselling because its said that only an addict can help and understand another addict.

3)What is the best part about the work you do?

A) the best part is I can not only help myself but i can also help another suffering addict.

4)Can you describe the stigmas faced by when they seek help for addiction and mental health issues?

A) The family doesn't accept that addiction is disease and the mental health issue which come along with it.

5)Aside from these stigmas, what are other reasons preventing patients from seeking mental health and addiction treatment?

A) The other Problem and issues we face is the denial and the self justification which is part of the disease.

6)What are some of the common ways that addiction starts?

A) It can start at any age ( As fun, To be accepted and to gain self confidence ). This can happen at any stage of life .

7)Does the feeling of addiction ever go away? Are people ever "cured?"

A) No it can never go away and we cannot cure the disease of addiction but can be arrested on a day to day basis.

8)Do you feel like the only solution is sobriety?

A) YES !! it is the only solution. People all over the world have tried different methods but have failed miserably as the only solution is the 12 step programme which leads to sobriety and recovery.

9)Can anyone become addicted? Or is it just people with certain personality traits?

A) Anyone can get addicted after which the personality starts playing.

10)Does shame play a large role in addiction?

A) YES IT DOES !! In fact it is the main reason for addicts to delay the recovery process.

11)What’s something you wish people knew about addiction?

A) Addiction is a family killer disease for which nobody is responsible. It is a sickness where the person is born with it and goes through hell along with he family, before he or she could get into recovery or gates of insanity and death.
