The Maldives Marine Science Institute (MMRI) has announced the fifth edition of its biennial Maldives Marine Science Symposium (MMSS), the nation’s leading platform for the communication of marine research conducted in the Maldives. The symposium will take place from July 24-25, 2024, in Malé, Maldives.

The MMSS is a hybrid event, with opportunities for both in-person and virtual participation. The symposium will feature a variety of marine research areas, including fisheries, coral reef ecology, ecosystem dynamics, fisheries management, marine conservation, marine biodiversity, deep-sea ecology, climate change, resource use, spatial planning, marine pollution, mariculture, and oceanography.

To celebrate the MMRI’s 40th anniversary, the fifth MMSS will feature a panel discussion in addition to oral and poster presentations. The panel discussion will focus on the past, present, and future of marine research in the Maldives.

Abstract submissions for the fifth MMSS will open in August 2023. Submission of abstracts and attendance at the symposium is free of charge.
