The Beginning of a New Era; Dr. Muizzu Sworn in as President

Following the Presidential Elections held on September 9th with a second round on the 30th, candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu emerged victorious as the new President-Elect. After a smooth transition period, Friday - 17th November 2023 - marked the beginning of a new era as Dr. Muizzu and running mate Hussain Mohamed Latheef were sworn in as the President and Vice president of the Maldives.


The inauguration ceremony was nothing short of a spectacle. Held at the republic square with an attendance of 1,000 members of the public alongside parliamentarians and senior officials of both the outgoing and new administrations. Several representatives and heads of state of foreign delegations were also present at the ceremony.


Upon taking the Presidential oath, Dr. Muizzu has become the eighth President of the Republic of Maldives. With Hussain Mohamed Latheef being the tenth Vice President of the country. The oath was administered by Chief Justice Muthasim Adnan. Parliament speaker Mohamed Aslam presided over the inauguration.


Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih attended the ceremony with former First Lady Fazna Ahmed. The two sincerely congratulated the newly elected President following the inauguration.
