President Muizzu has officially ratified amendments to the Employment Act that impose stricter penalties on employers who neglect the rights of expatriate employees. According to the new provisions, employers found to be negligent will face a fine of MVR 50,000.

This significant amendment signals a strong commitment from the government to protect the rights and interests of expatriate workers, who are vital to the Maldivian workforce. By enforcing these fines, the administration aims to promote better labor practices and ensure that all employees are treated fairly and with respect.
