MDP’s Rashid wins Komandoo by-election

Mohamed Rashid from the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has won the parliamentary seat for the Komandoo constituency in the by-election held on February 5.

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has completed the counting of all seven ballot boxes placed for the by-election in Male' City and across the three islands of the Komandoo constituency, Komandoo, Foakaidhoo, and Maroshi. As per the preliminary results announced by ECM, Rashid received 1,401 votes and Moosa Fathuhee Adam from the opposition Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) received 1,161 votes. Meanwhile, Abdul Hannan Idrees from Maldives National Party (MNP) received 323 votes.

The by-election for Komandoo constituency was held due to the passing of the late Parliamentarian Hussain Waheed who had been representing the constituency in the Parliament of the Maldives. The late Parliamentarian Waheed was also from MDP.
